2025 END OF YEAR SHOW

No place like home🌪️✨

Friday 28th – Sunday 30th November
Bruce Ritchie Performing Arts Centre, Massey High School

Welcome to our biggest, most magical celebration of the year! Our end-of-year shows are a chance for dancers to shine, perform, feel proud and this year, bring the magic of The Wizard of Oz to life. Every dancer has their moment on stage and we can’t wait for you all to experience it!

This page contains everything you need to know - please read carefully! It’s a large event with over 400 dancers and many, many items, so we appreciate parents + dancers being sure of what they are doing and where they are going.

Mini SHOW

Saturday 29 november

Our Mini Show is a short, family-friendly performance featuring our youngest Studio Move dancers. It runs from 10.00-11.45am (with a break in the middle) and is designed to be fun, magical and the perfect length for little performers (and their families!).

Classes included

All of our early-years and junior beginner classes perform in this show, including:

  • Baby Move

  • Tiny Move

  • Mini Move

  • Preschool Acro

  • Mini Acro

  • Little Acro

  • Mini Jazz

  • Mini Hip Hop

  • Mini Lyrical

  • Little Lyrical

  • & comp students

how can i help my dancer prepare?

For many of our little Movers, this is their very first time on a real stage. It will be exciting, magical and sometimes a tiny bit overwhelming! Here are the best ways parents can support their little one so they feel confident, calm and ready to shine:

  • Make sure they are going to class over the last few weeks.

  • Share our video playlist with them and allow them to listen to their song and practise their dance at home when they want to.

  • Talk positively about the show and chat about the exciting things - the costume, the lights, the cool hair and make-up.

  • Ensure they have everything they need including shoes and a dance bag and a costume bag. Shopping for some special little make-up items or hair things could be something fun to build excitement.

  • Invite friends and family to come and watch so they know they have their special people there to perform to.

  • Chat about how the day will work for them and what they can expect.

  • Start the hair and make-up process early and avoid stress of being late.

  • If you are able to, leave them backstage with their teacher or another helper. Dancers often do better / are more likely to get onstage if they are left to hang out with their buddies instead of Mum/Dad.

When do we get the costumes?

Pick-up sessions start from November 22! Check out our Costume Page for more details and don’t forget to come along to grab it. We don’t bring costumes to class or the show venue.

When is the stage rehearsal?

Dancers in our Mini Show are invited to come along to Massey High School at 4.30pm on Thursday 27th November for a relaxed run-through. All dancers must remain with their parent or caregiver throughout the session.

Please come inside and take a seat together in the auditorium. We’ll begin with Baby Move and then work our way through the show in running order. No uniform or costume is needed for this practice, just come along ready to watch, listen, and get excited for show day!

what hair do we do?

All dancers should have two, high buns. Use hair spray, string ties and bun clips.

✨ Show day ✨

Our Mini Show runs for 1 hour and 40 minutes, including a short half-time interval. Below is everything you need to know to help the morning run smoothly and keep our dancers calm, safe and ready to shine.

  • Head to sign-in zones by: 9.40am

  • Please arrive with your dancer fully dressed in their first costume, with hair and makeup completed before entering the venue.

  • Take your dancer to their correct dressing room door and sign them in with the helper in high-vis.

  • Once inside, help your dancer set up their belongings, make sure they’re settled, then please head out so we can keep dressing rooms calm and organised.

  • Show finishes: 11.45am

  • Parents will then head to the dressing rooms to pick up and sign out their dancer.

  • Please do not come onto the stage to collect dancer. This helps us keep everyone safe and accounted for.

🎀 Awards & Goodies

If your dancer has a hired costume, it must be returned immediately after the show.
Please place the costume straight into the labelled return boxes in the foyer and hand it to the ladies in high-vis who will be there to sign your dancer’s name off. A reminder that hire costumes that are not returned on this day incur a $100 non-return fee.

BACKSTAGE HELPERS

We love having our Move parents involved!
If you’d like to help backstage on show day, you’ll need to:

  1. Register using our Backstage Helper form (spots are limited).

  2. Be available to attend our rehearsal day + helper meeting before show weekend.

Only registered helpers who attend this meeting will be given backstage access. We do not allow extra parents or random people through the doors for the safety of our young dancers.
The space backstage is also limited - thank you for understanding and helping us keep everything calm and organised for our dancers! Please have a chat to fellow parents in your dancers class and organise someone to watch/help your dancer so that you can maybe watch from the audience. It is important to note that helping backstage does not guarantee that you will be able to watch your dancer perform on stage. The space in the wings can be limited too and on show day, the dancers and our show are our priority. The audience is for watching.

  • Dance undies (skin-tone underwear designed for stage)

  • Footless tights – great for quick changes and comfort under costumes

  • A labelled costume bag to keep everything together

We’ll have these available to purchase at our costume pick-up sessions, along with:

  • Studio Move wrap-arounds and outerwear – perfect for wearing over costumesbetween items or while waiting backstage

A small stock will be available, so grab what you need early!

Main Shows – everyone else! All styles. If you are in the Mini show with your class you are NOT in these two main shows. Saturday 5pm and Sunday 4.00pm. We expect dancers to do both shows.

  • Tickets are sold through Eventbrite. You must purchase them before the day and have them ready to show at the door. They will sell out!

Seats are general admission (not allocated), doors open 20–30 minutes before show time, so arrive early to find a great spot. Each show has its own ticket link, and all audience members (including siblings and grandparents) need a ticket. Babies under 1 may sit on a parent’s lap. Before buying, think about whether you’ll be backstage helping or watching - Main Show families often do one of each! Your dancer does not need a ticket.

  • You may have noticed the growing pile of costumes in the studio -  it’s going to get even bigger! We’re busily prepping everything for our No Place Like Home show, and all costumes will be available for collection at the following times:

Tūī Glen Reserve – Scouts Hall2 Claude Brookes Drive, Henderson(behind the large car park and playground area)

    Costume Pick-Up Sessions

    • Saturday 22 Nov: 5 – 7 pm

    • Sunday 23 Nov: 10 am – 3 pm

    • Monday 24 Nov: 7:30 am – 4 pm

    • Tuesday 25 Nov: 12 – 4 pm

    • Wednesday 26 Nov: 2 – 4 pm

Please collect during these times only — costumes are stored at Tūī Glen, and we can’t access them during classes.

💳 Payment is required at pick-up. We’re not sending invoices this year, so please come prepared to pay by EFTPOS, PayWave, credit card, or bank transfer at the hall.

All dancers who are enrolled in classes and did not opt out of the show in time are required to pay for their costumes. We have already ordered your dancer’s costumes and accessories — please ensure these are collected and reimbursed so we can keep everything running smoothly.

    Before you arrive:

    • ✅ Check your dancer’s Costume Directory for exact items, prices, and details.

    • 💰 Most costumes range between $25 – $40, and no outfit has gone over $60.

    • 🩰 Know which classes/dances your dancer is in to help our team find your costumes quickly.

    • 🎒 You can also pick up a Studio Move costume bag or undergarments during your visit.

    ⚠️ Important:

    • Costumes cannot be moved to other venues, picked up early, or collected in class.

    • All costumes are organised by class and stored in clearly labelled boxes — moving them risks items being lost or mixed up.

    • The boxes are too large to fit in teachers’ cars, and our EFTPOS terminal is located at Tū Glen, so this is the only place where we can process payments.

    • These are the only collection windows — please plan ahead.

    • We’re managing hundreds of outfits — thank you for respecting these times and helping our team stay organised.

We can’t wait for everyone to see their amazing costumes, they’re looking absolutely magical this year! ✨

  • All dancers wear basic stage makeup so they look their best under the bright lights.

    Main Show dancers:

    • Foundation, bronzer and blush

    • Brown eyeshadows (no glitter)

    • Mascara (or false lashes for seniors)

    • Red lipstick for everyone - please make sure it is nice and bright red.

    Mini Show dancers:
Makeup is completely optional - do whatever feels right! Your dancer can wear stage makeup or nothing at all.

For help with make-up, you may want to YouTube some basic stage make-up for kids videos!

  • Mini Show: All dancers wear two high buns (excluding troupe teams).

🎥 How to Do Two High Buns – Watch Here

    You’ll need:

    • Hair gel and hairspray

    • Strong hair ties

    • Bun clips and pins

    • Hair nets (super helpful for keeping everything tidy)

If your dancer’s hair isn’t able to be tied up, just do your best at styling it!

Main Show: All dancers wear one middle-parted low bun. If your dancer is in both Mini and Main Shows, you’ll need to change their hair between shows.

This video gives some good tips - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPlalIoWNdM&t=226s

💫 Please ensure hair is slicked back neatly so headpieces can clip on easily and everyone looks performance-ready. We need all dancers to use hair spray and gel and have well groomed hair.

  • Dancers should arrive to go and sign-in at their dressing room location 30 minutes before shows start. This is when check-in opens. If you arrive too late, your dancer may miss out on performing.

    Arrive with:

    • Hair and makeup complete

    • Costumes in labelled bag (or wearing them under a Studio Move jacket!)

    • Water bottle and snack (no nuts please)

    • A labelled bag or dump bucket to keep all gear in

Our backstage team looks after all dancers until the show ends - no collections between items or at intervals. Help us keep dancers safe and happy and follow all backstage rules.

  • When arriving for our End-of-Year Show, all dancers must head straight to their assigned dressing room zone to sign in. Please note: everyone must enter around the back of the auditorium. No dancers or parents should enter through the front foyer or audience area. Follow the signs / staff.

We have many separate dressing rooms, each with a dedicated sign-in area. You’ll soon receive a link showing exactly where your dancer’s zone is located (and we will leave it here too). On arrival, please take your dancer to their correct zone, sign them in with the person in a high-vis vest, and then leave them there, set up and ready to go. This is the same area where you will sign them out and collect them at the end of the show.

With more than 400 dancers performing, it’s absolutely essential that everyone follows these procedures carefully to help us keep every performer safe and accounted for.

  • We rely on our amazing parent helpers to keep things running smoothly backstage, it’s a big job and an important one!

If you can help, please fill in the form below:👉 Parent Helper Sign-Up Form

This form is essential - there will be security at the door, and only those listed on the official helper roster can enter backstage for safety reasons.

    Please note:

    • Every family is encouraged to volunteer at least once across our shows, even one shift makes a huge difference!

    • Dancers aged 8–12 years still need parent helpers backstage - they’re not yet old enough to manage independently and we always struggle to get helpers for them.

    • Helpers who can attend the Friday Dress Rehearsal will be prioritised, as they’ll already know what to do and how the show runs.

    • Being backstage does not guarantee you will see your dancer perform! Helpers are assigned to specific groups and tasks, and their priority is caring for the dancers in their area.

    • Space backstage is limited - not everyone who applies can be accepted. We prioritise dancers first (because they need to be there), parents who can help & come to rehearsals and then everyone else.

    • If you apply to help at all shows, we may only be able to roster you for one.

    • Confirmed helpers will receive a roster email, backstage schedule, and access pass closer to show weekend.

Thank you for helping us create a safe, organised, and supportive backstage environment for all our Movers! Once you get to the show, you will see what a huge task this is to manage.

  • Can dancers watch from the audience once they have finished?! No, all dancers must remain backstage for the entire duration of their show.

We don’t have enough staff, time, or systems to safely move dancers between backstage and the audience. If your dancer is performing, they stay backstage for the full event.

Please respect this rule - it keeps our dancers safe, minimises distractions, and ensures smooth show transitions for everyone.

  • Every show is professionally filmed and photographed and you will receive copies of them. The cost is already included in your $25 show fee, so every family will receive a link to watch and download the full performance once editing is complete.

Our professional photographers capture both on-stage and backstage photos throughout the weekend. While we do get hundreds of beautiful shots, we can’t guarantee that every single dancer will appear in the final gallery - but we do our best to include as many smiling faces as possible!

To practise routines at home, check out our Move playist:▶️ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBN3xqyNcIEyfoLM03_6j6BRc7FxpYAnp

Please no personal filming or flash photography during the performances - it helps our dancers stay focused and allows our professional team to capture everything safely and beautifully.

    • Water bottle (named)

    • Nut-free snacks (no chocolate or messy foods)

    • Own medication / inhalers

    • All costume pieces clearly labelled with somewhere to put them

    • Their dance shoes and gear

    • Tan dance undies and footless tights and/or ballet tights. No bright coloured under garments.

    • A change of clothes for after the show if you have a hired costume that needs to be returned

    • Quiet activity (book or colouring) for downtime

    • Jacket or jumper if it’s chilly backstage

  • Ticket refunds are available via overtire up until 7 days before the show date. We do not accept or respond to refund requests via email.

If your dancer is no longer able to do the show, we cannot refund any show fees, term fees, or costume fees. The date to do so has well passed.

  • All regular Friday and Saturday classes pause during show week - everyone is at the theatre.
If your dancer isn’t performing, come and cheer for your Studio Move friends in the audience. It’s a wonderful celebration for all our families.
