What Will My Dancer Perform?
Your dancer will perform the routine they have been learning in class this term.
Recreational classes perform their Carnival dance.
Ballet and Jazz exam classes perform their NZAMD exam dance.
Competition teams perform their current competition routine.
It's a wonderful opportunity for dancers to celebrate everything they've worked so hard on throughout the term!
Uniform
Please arrive dressed and ready to perform.
All dancers wear their normal Studio Move uniform:
Pink Studio Move uniform OR
Black Studio Move uniform
Competition teams should wear their costume.
❌ No costumes are required for recreational classes.
❌ No makeup is required.
Hair
To keep our dancers looking neat and uniform:
Pink Uniform
Two buns or
Two ponytails
Black Uniform
One slicked-back ponytail (high or low is completely fine!)
Please use hairspray or gel where needed to keep hair tidy.
🎀 Every dancer will receive a FREE Studio Move hair ribbon when they arrive!
Arrival
Please arrive 30 minutes before your show begins. If your dancer is in the afternoon show, they will want to come maybe more like an hour early so that they get to take part in some of the fun carnival activities.
When you arrive, dancers should head to the right-hand side of the St Dominic's Gym, where they will be seated on the floor with their class.
Classes are seated together in designated zones, making it easy for teachers and volunteers to find everyone. There is a sign in process and dancers must all wear a wristband with their name on it.
Parents can still see their dancers throughout the performance, and dancers have a fantastic view of the stage.
Our youngest dancers
If your dancer is under 5 years old, we ask that a parent or trusted adult remains close by throughout the show to help if needed.
Parent Helpers
We'll soon be asking for one parent helper per class.
Parent helpers play a really important role by:
Helping supervise dancers in their seating area.
Listening carefully for class announcements.
Reading through the class roll when it's time to line up.
Walking the class backstage ready to perform.
Many hands make light work, and we really appreciate everyone who volunteers!
How Do Dancers Know When It's Their Turn?
Throughout the show our MC will announce each class.
For example:
"Now performing... Petite Jazz. On deck... Baby Move and Junior Acro."
When your dancer hears their class announced as "On Deck", it's time for them (and their parent helper) to stand up and head backstage to line up.
If you notice your dancer hasn't gone with their class, please feel free to pop over and help them.
Don't Worry... They Usually Surprise You!
We know many parents worry that their child might get nervous.
The wonderful thing about Carnival is that most dancers are incredibly brave once they're with their friends!
Our teachers accompany our younger classes, and we also have lots of friendly senior Studio Move dancers backstage helping, encouraging and cheering everyone on.
It's always one of the sweetest parts of the day.
Carnival Between the Shows!
The fun doesn't stop after the first performance!
Between the Morning and Afternoon Shows we'll be hosting our Carnival with:
✨ Face glitter
💇 Hair braiding
🎨 Crafts
🎯 Carnival games
🌭 Hot dogs
🍭 Sweet treats
🪩 Disco
🎈 And plenty more!
You're welcome to stay, relax, play and enjoy the afternoon before the second show begins.
Practising at Home
Want a little extra practice before Carnival?
If you can't find your class video, simply send us a message, we're happy to help.
Tickets
Tickets are available now! Click here to purchase.
Please don't leave purchasing until the last minute. Carnival is one of our biggest events of the year and we often sell out before the day, meaning there may be no door sales available.
Remember:
🎟️ Audience members require a ticket.
💙 Dancers do NOT need a ticket - every performer receives a free pass for the day.
We can't wait to celebrate another amazing year of dancing with all of our Studio Move families.
See you on Saturday 1 August!

If your dancer is scheduled to be in both shows but they cannot make one, don’t worry! It is okay to just do one show.
Obviously check with your dancer first - they have all been working hard and it’s likely dancers want to do all of their routines!
-
Dancers under 14 must be accompanied by a parent throughout. Please make sure you have purchased a Carnival Pass to come inside the venue.
-
Parents/caregivers must be responsible for their own dancer throughout the day. The entire show takes place within one room meaning you can see your own child at all times. While care will be taken with keeping dancers in one zone and leaving most exit doors closed, Studio Move cannot take full responsibility for your dancer during the course of this day. It is not like our end of year show where we ask you to sign dancers in and out, utilise our full child minding process and our team of 100+ parent volunteers. Thank you for ensuring your dancer is able to participate safely in this day!
-
If your dancer is late or accidentally attends the wrong show, there is nothing we can do. Please take care to arrive in plenty of time (you will need 30 minutes before the show at least) and to come to the right show. You can email us and ask if you are unsure.
If your dancer does not know the name of their class or is not listening when their class is called, please help out our parent volunteers and go and tell your child to line up.
-
Generally, no. Dancers need to arrive in their pink or black uniform and stay in that one outfit for the full show.
Dancers who do multiple genres should figure out one outfit that they can wear for all!
Shoes are optional on this day. If your dancer is bringing their own shoes to change, they must all be labelled (the actual shoe) and inside a labelled bag. They need to take full responsibility for shoes during the show and after.
The exception to this would be our troupe teams who perform in costume.
